Amid the surging tide of cultural tourism, SAGA City of Light, undertaken by French production company Puy du Fou, has made its dazzling debut in Shanghai’s Xuhui District. As a complement, “City of Light · Origin Gift Box”—a VIP-exclusive collector’s item crafted to commemorate the inaugural year—encapsulates the awe-inspiring scenes of the theater in tangible, inheritable immersive keepsakes, allowing distinguished guests to unlock exclusive stories and immerse themselves deeply in the rich tapestry of history.

Drawing inspiration from Shikumen in Shanghai, the gift box pioneers a ‘double-door’ form. The act of opening the doors gives a sense of ceremony, and makes the guest feel as if getting into character, delivering an immersive “open-the-box-and-enter-the-drama” experience. Its multi-layer nested structure ensures a more engaging journey of exploration: the upper layer features a wooden frame displaying five exquisite badges, each corresponding to a VIP-exclusive story; the concealed drawer of the lower layer contains a red velvet cloak—a 1:1 replica of the theatrical costume worn by performers—with specially designed collar fasteners to secure any chosen badge. When the guest dons the cloak and affixes a metal badge to the collar, he/she will instantly become an ‘anonymous supporter,” completing a magnificent metamorphosis from spectator to participant.

The gift box also embodies profound cultural significance. The exterior adopts the same color as the red cloak, while the engraved patterns of Art Deco style and the metal doorplate with the LOGO are reminiscent of whistles and gunfire in 1937. As for the interior, each badge corresponds to a covert mission, paying homage to the war of resistance against aggression in Shanghai. In terms of material selection and craftsmanship, the detachable frame crafted from premium teak, paired with metal badges, ingeniously blends wood and metal to achieve a harmonious interplay of strength and elegance. Its combination with the cloak made through the tailoring technique provides a multi-sensory experience involving tactile, olfactory, and visual senses, thus creating a strong cultural and ceremonial atmosphere.
